STEM Community Engagement Summit Grants
The Missouri Mathematics and Science Coalition in partnership with the Missouri AfterSchool Network has developed the STEM Community Engagement Grant Program in an effort to promote, engage and expand interest in STEM education programming in local communities. Grants of $5,000 are to be awarded to local communities to provide resources and technical assistance towards the development and support of local/regional Summits on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education. These grants can assist local communities to engage in coordinating and convening meetings, community asset mapping, and with participation in statewide meetings.
The grants are designed to educate local business and education leaders about the importance of STEM learning during both the school day and after school, provide local leaders with opportunities to learn from peers about how to strengthen STEM, and coordinate community efforts to support expanded STEM learning opportunities. The grants will provide support and technical assistance to local teams to support hosting local summits on STEM education.
The first round of STEM Community Engagement Summit Grants were awarded to: the Kirksville Chamber of Commerce, the Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce and Arcadia Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Goals of the grants
- Foster partnerships to provide local leaders with an opportunity to learn from peers about how to strengthen STEM opportunities locally, build local/regional systems; and coordinate community efforts to support expanded STEM learning opportunities for area students.
- Secure and mobilize community resources to enhance and improve student learning experiences and meet STEM education and workforce needs specific to the needs of the community and region.
- Ensure that quality formal and informal STEM learning opportunities are being developed and delivered to challenge and expand students’ abilities.
